SOUTHINGTON
When it comes to children, there can never be enough education against drugs, according to Y in the Afternoon Outreach workers. The Substance Abuse Action Council "Prevention Mobile" bus, a mobile education unit, went to the site with a video presentation and activities for the children.

Red Ribbon Week
National Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31 every year. It is a time when schools and communities celebrate a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Red Ribbon Celebration, first held in 1988, is dedicated to the memory of Enrique Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. Drug dealers in Mexico murdered him in 1985. A national campaign developed around the red ribbon, as a catalyst to mobilize communities in the fight for drug-free youth, families, and neighborhoods.

Smoke-free Workplaces
On October 1, 2003, the new law for smoke-free work places goes into effect. Connecticut is the fourth state nationwide to pass statewide smoke-free work place legislation.
