Good Friends Stick
Together!

PAWS stands for Peers are Wonderful Support.  PAWS is a program for Middle School and High School students who are interested in, and enjoy, helping other kids in their community.  About 20 towns in our region participate in this program.  Most PAWS programs are found in schools or at your local Youth Service Bureau.

PAWS students are leaders both inside and outside of school.  They serve as role models and mentors for other students and as activists taking a stand against substance abuse and tobacco use.  They work to create change, making their schools and communities better and healthier places.  Being a PAWS student means that you set a good example for other kids and that you are a leader!

PAWS students go to several conferences throughout the year.  At these conferences, they participate in many different workshops that help them learn how to be good leaders; they also receive good food and fun giveaways and get to meet PAWS students from different schools in the area and learn about their programs.

If you, or your big brothers or sisters, are interested in joining the PAWS program, just talk to your teacher or guidance counselor, or contact your Youth Service Bureau to find out if there is a Peer Helping/Mediation program in your town or how you can start one if none is available.  Remember, you must understand that as a role model and activist regarding substance abuse issues, you must live a life that is true to what you work for as a PAWS student.  That means you must remain substance free!
