About ERASE...

Mission Statement:  ERASE's mission is to increase the resiliency of youth and the capacity of communities in our 15-town region as they fight together against substance abuse, addictions and other related issues.  Towns served include Andover, Bolton, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Glastonbury, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, Tolland, and Vernon.

ERASE achieves this by:

  • Bringing diverse voices to the table

  • Listening and responding to the communities in the region

  • Forming partnerships and collaborations, and

  • Applying prevention science and asset-building tools.

ERASE Services/Programs:  ERASE provides the following programs and services to our community:

Selected Accomplishments

ERASE designed Right Steps© to reach Connecticut youth coaches, park and recreation leaders, health teachers, youth serving agencies, church groups, boy/girl scout leaders and more.  The program was endorsed by the Connecticut and National Offices of National Youth Sport Coaches’ Association and the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association.  The program teaches adults the importance of being positive role models to youth.  It also increases their awareness of the influence that advertising in sports has on young people in regards to smoking, drinking, and gambling.  The “Hooked on Sports”© video, which focuses on advertising in sports, is used in many other presentations by ERASE staff.

ERASE was instrumental in the development and passage of the 1999 Glastonbury model ordinance on possession of alcohol by minors on private property, which allows local police to intervene in underage drinking in homes.  This law has now been adopted in other towns across the state.  ERASE assisted with technical support in other communities on this issue as well as presenting at the National Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Conference on Underage Drinking in Reno, Nevada in October 2000.
